One in three people over 80 and one in fourteen over sixty-five are affected by dementia. It is important as a later life adviser to be aware that those with dementia will need a different approach, and increasing your understanding about dementia can help you to better communicate and support your clients. SOLLA would encourage all later life advisers to become a Dementia Friend.
This free session, presented by a Dementia Friends Ambassador, will help you to understand more about the challenges of living with dementia, and at the end of the session you can decide if you'd like to become a Dementia Friend.
The later life adviser uses their excellent soft skills to communicate when advising older and often, potentially vulnerable clients and their families. Dementia is something many later life advisers will have awareness of, either through their own family or clients and their families but without any training may not be as knowledgeable as they should be. 45 minutes spent attending a Dementia Friends session is both incredibly effective as well as helpful in making sense and taking practical steps to find out and understanding a little bit more about what it's like to live with dementia. Turning this understanding into action makes all the difference – it’s a must for every adviser who works in the later life space.
