Finding a trusted financial adviser can be difficult, where do you look? A good place to start is to find a member of the Society of Later Life Advisers (SOLLA), the gold standard for those needing a specialist financial adviser in later life.

Recently a new client contacted me through the SOLLA website. Nervous about taking financial advice, my adviser profile on the society’s website reassured her I would be sensitive to her concerns.  She was approaching 60, single, and had just been made redundant. She had several pension plans, investments, cash savings, her redundancy pay out and money she had inherited.

She was unsure of her current financial position. Did she need to go back to work, or could she afford to retire now? Discussing her later life goals, she wanted to continue working but on her own terms. She also needed her finances to be easier to manage with less paperwork.

I advised her on her pension options whilst maximising the amount she could contribute for the current tax year. Her ISA savings and other investments were arranged to maximise capital growth potential in a tax efficient way. I also stressed the importance of getting her will and power of attorneys in place.

My advice and recommendations gave my client a much better understanding of her financial position, which was a real weight off her shoulders. Contacting a SOLLA Accredited Adviser who could relate to her needs and future retirement considerations made all the difference.
